What is Pétanque ?
Pétanque is an exciting game / sport originated in Provence (France) around 1907 which quickly became very popular in many countries in Europe and all over the World. Pétanque [petãk] is also known around the world as “Jeux de Boules” (game of balls). Boule [Bul] is the French word for a “small ball, bowl” .
It can be played by everyone no matter their age, sex, sizes or athletic skills.
All that’s needed is a few friends with the ability to aim and throw a boule, an open ground space, and the pétanque equipment which consists of a small wooden target ball, a set of 3 larger hollow metal balls per player; the “boules”, and… this is it !
The challenge comes in trying to master your throwing skills. Whether you are a newbie or a addict, you never get tired of perfecting your game. There are clubs and tournaments worldwide for both amateurs and competitors that offer you the chance to improve your game and have a lot of fun.
